Rommegrot (Rømmegrøt) is a Norwegian porridge made with sour cream as the basic ingredient. Other ingredients include whole milk, wheat flour, and salt.
Rømme is a Norwegian word meaning a heavy sour cream made from cream or blend of whole milk and cream which is acidified. Grøt is a term for mush or pudding. Traditionally, Rommegrot is a delicacy prepared for special occasions, including holidays. Served with butter, sugar, and cinnamon.
Lutefisk is a traditional dish of the Nordic countries and parts of the Midwest United States. It is made from stockfish (air-dried whitefish) or dried/salted whitefish (klippfisk) and lye (lut). Its name literally means "lye fish."
Lutefisk is usually served with a variety of side dishes, including, but not limited to, bacon, green pea stew, boiled potatoes, white sauce, mustard, melted or clarified butter.
Pork ribs (Norwegian: Ribbe) with a crisp surface. Served with sauerkraut/red cabbage, boiled potatoes, lingonberry and gravy.
Pinnekjøtt is a main course dinner dish of dried lamb or mutton ribs. Pinnekjøtt is a festive dish typical to Western- and Northern Norway, served with puréed swede and boiled potatoes.
Desserts
Multekrem is a traditional Norwegian dessert, made by mixing Cloudberries with whipped cream and sugar.
Ris a la mande (Norwegian: Riskrem) is made out of rice pudding mixed with whipped cream, vanilla (and sometimes chopped almonds), and is usually served with a cherry sauce.
